After making a war hammer out of a pair of Andrew's pants and a half-roll of duct tape, Simon got some technical advice from Brad across the street about the manufacture of soft(ish) weaponry using pvc pipe and foam pipe insulation. The results were tested out this weekend by a gang of hooligans who cornered a dinner guest in our yard and engaged him in battle. 
Outnumbered but unflappable, John kept running into the kitchen for another sip of Magic Revival Potion, which sat on the counter awaiting him in a large martini glass. As a result, his bravado outlasted the childrens' interest in laying him low, and he emerged from the battle slightly bruised, pleasantly tipsy, and wholly triumphant.
