Arboreal Riparian Magic

Wednesday I was fortunate enough to get to hang out with Sarita and Martha for a few hours. Mostly we lazed around the house in a fairly unambitious manner: Sarita helped me with the Ken Ken, and we played a few hands of Beans (a two-pile variation of Crazy 8's played with what looks like a modified Tarot deck and scored with pinto beans) while waiting for the Annie's Mac 'n' Cheese to boil. But before the drizzle came on we zipped over to Camp Long to check in on Mandy Greer and her river of yarn. It's really coming together!


You may recall that we (along with hundreds of other people) helped crochet some of the strands that have gone into this piece. We weren't able to identify any of our contributions specifically, but we knew they were there...


We love the way it soars through the forest and then swoops down alongside the real creek.



Martha's looking across the stream at a family of ducks on the opposite bank. Mandy said there had once been nine ducklings, but now only these two remained. Everybody send survival thoughts their way!


Mandy is scheduled to finish installing the river this week, and she says it'll remain in place for at least the rest of the month -- we definitely recommend a visit to the magical space she has created. Choreographer/dancer Zoe Scofield will perform a site-specific piece there on Thursday, July 16th at 6:30 pm. Here's some more info about the performance.
