Congratulations, Roger!

We never did get around to getting "the box" that would allow us to watch network TV after the big HD switcheroo last month. We didn't think it would matter, frankly -- even though we're also cableless -- as we have figured out how to watch most of the TV we want to watch on the internet or via Netflix. But we had forgotten about Wimbledon...

So we were enormously grateful on Sunday when our neighbor Linda opened up her livingroom to the Luddite masses, so we could witness Andy Roddick's heroic effort to stave off Roger Federer's record-setting 15th Grand Slam championship. She even served us popovers and raspberries from her garden -- are we lucky or what?

It was certainly an epic match -- 30 games in that final set! But we didn't feel as emotionally gripped by this one as we did by the Federer-Nadal match-up last year. Roddick's 140-mile-an-hour serve is breathtaking, for sure, but it doesn't result in the beautiful, nail-biting back-and-forth that Federer and Nadal strung out for five incredible hours. Plus, we missed the aesthetic benefits Nadal brings to the court (hey, we're human!). Get well soon, Rafa!

At one point Simon borrowed Granny Shan's iPhone and tried to look up "Nadal tennis" on YouTube. "How come there's only three things, and none of them are him?" he asked. Granny Shan had a look. "Oh, see, it's because you typed in 'nasal tennis' instead of 'Nadal.'"

That there were three items in this category was indeed intriguing; unfortunately none of them lived up to our imaginings!
