Columbia City Trick Or Treat

We won't pretend to have captured even a fraction of the incredible costumery on parade yesterday afternoon in Columbia City, but here are a few highlights:

Mr. Potato Head, who scurried across Rainier Avenue to get to Full Tilt -- we had visions of a Toy Story reenactment scene, perhaps involving those giant traffic cones from Olympic Sculpture Park:

The Amazing Spider-Dad & Spider-Son will protect us from wrongdoers Big & Small:

The light inside this pumpkin at Roy's BBQ gradually shifted from green to blue to purple to red to orange to yellow and back to green. Highly hypnotic, probably containing subliminal messages designed to induce a craving for pulled pork sandwiches.

There were a couple of Giraffes wandering around, but we found this one especially cheering -- possibly because it was hard to imagine a body shaped less like a giraffe than this adorably chubby-kneed, wobbly-legged, pot-bellied, round-bottomed one.

Our own contingent had brought along more than enough verticality to go around. Especially Jenny -- far right -- who would be, like, seven feet tall if she hadn't gone and removed her head.

Parents of small children crossed the street to avoid Aunt Lexi the Prom Zombie, whose crutches contributed something unexpectedly creepy to the ensemble.

It's hard to believe, but that 6-foot-tall Spider Fairy edging away from the Prombie is Josie.

Another view of this leggy pair, showing Josie's 5" platform go-go boots. (Our girl has officially entered Feets Too Big territory, and even joined the Borrow Lexi's Shoes Club recently.)

All in all, a terrific afternoon. Thank you, Columbia City!

It's "prombie" thankyouverymuch. Josie is definitely too tall. But not as too tall as Kaya, who I saw the other night. Sheesh!
