New binder? Check. Composition books and pencils? Check. Print cartridges and a desk lamp and three stainless steel water bottles? What the hell, they're on sale! Check, check, check.
Messenger bag that converts to a backpack and has a secret compartment for mom to put secret notes in and a mesh pocket that's just the right size for an iPhone (dream on, Simon)? Check.
Flash drive? Sheesh, we just went to the office supply store, and now you tell me? I think I have a spare one laying around here somewhere, and if you'll give me three minutes' peace, I can take all my random files off it and you can have it. No, honey, that was only one minute. Why don't you go set the timer. Thank you. Check.
Lunch supplies, clean socks, EpiPen? Check, check, check.
Hair bleached and dyed three shades of blue? Didn't find time to make this happen, sorry.
Appointment with eye doctor for new contacts? D'oh! I'll get right on that first thing tomorrow.
New EpiPen form signed by pediatrician (because even though it's the same damn EpiPen for the same child with the same bee-sting allergy, somehow over the summer last year's signed form has lost the power to confer upon the school nurse the authority to administer this potentially life-saving measure to our son)? Oh, crap.
New insoles for the big pink boots Josie absolutely has to wear to school on the first day? That'll take two to three weeks, says the Fluevog lady. You mean we have to leave them here? We didn't bring an extra pair of shoes with us. But... now that I think about it, those red ones over there are pretty cute. How convenient that we wear the same size shoes: she can wear them home, but really they'll be mine.
"iPod Magic 8-Ball" predictions for the school year? "Galaxy of Emptiness." Dismayed pause. No, really: What does the school year have in store? Shuffle, shuffle... "Codeine." Oh dear.
Well, at least we had some time on Tuesday for everyone to bone up on some critical school survival skills:
Awesome superpowers, with soundtrack to match? Check.

I love it!
I don't know what was more amazing, Menna, Bronwen and Mikala's hair or how far the water shot out of my nose when I laughed at Simon taking a bullet. The last effect of flying is especially cool. I think we should make a whole movie where everyone moves that way.
