Twilight Rescue

Reported by Josie

At about noon today Bram called and he said, "Ayden has something to tell you." And she was like, "Your cat is in the tree." And I was like, "Oh!" So I went over and they showed me the tree. The tree is really tall -- it's like 40 feet tall, and there's no branches until 20 feet up. And then there's like, a few big branches. And Charlie was sitting there, and all you could see was this little fluffy orange and white splotch. And it was really cute! But it was really sad, because he was stuck in the tree.

So we all went over and we were like, "Kitty, kitty, come down, come down!" But he didn't come down. He stuck his paw down the tree like he was going to come down, but he didn't actually. It was very sad and annoying.

So then I told him, "I am going to a movie, and I will not be back until 9 o'clock! So you had better come down very fast -- otherwise you will be stuck there for all the night!" But he just looked at me very cutefully. And I had to be very sorry for telling him that, because he was so cute!

I went home, and I was like, "The cat is in the tree!" and everyone was like, "Don't worry, he will come down." But I was like, "No, he won't, he is stuck in the tree!" And Mom said, "Emmett always says, 'You never see any cat skeletons in trees, do you?' The cat will come down." But I just made a grumpy face at her.

So then I went to see "Bolt" with Julianna and Isaac and Simon. And Bolt was this doggie who is in all these movies where he is trying to get the Green Eyed Man, and he thought it was all real, and that he was really trying to get the Green Eyed Man. So he ran away, and it was very -- hm, what is an adjective to describe it? -- melodramatic! And it's John Travolta, and there is this little hamster, and he is very cute.

Okay, but. I came home, and I kind of forgot to check on the cat. And then we went out to dinner and another movie. It was "Twilight." I went with Mom. Which was kind of sad. (I like you, Mom, but nobody goes to see movies with their mom!) It was very good, but you had to endure lots of smooching, and breaking glass, and blood, and fire, and broken bones. Because in order to kill the vampire you have to rip off his head and burn it. Don't worry, that won't give anything away! Just maybe that you shouldn't see it if you don't like to see someone's head get ripped off and burnt.

Okay, that was that movie.

On the way home it was 9:15, and I said, "Mom, will you drive around the block so we can see if Charlie is still in the tree?" Mommy was like, "No, we should go home and see if he's at home. I'm really sure he's going to be there. But if he's not we can go and look in the tree." So I said, "No, Mommy, he is there! I know it! He was so scared before, he will not come down!" So Mommy drove around the block. We were driving very slowly, and then we drove by the tall tree. And we saw.... Charlie! And he was just a little sleeping furry Charlie way up in the tree! I don't think he was actually sleeping, but he was just resting because he was so tired from being stuck in the tree all day. And I said "OMG! He is there in the tree!" And Mommy was very surprised to see him there.

So we drove back around the block and parked the car in front of our house. Papa was putting Simon to bed so we didn't ask him to help because all the excitement would wake Simon back up. We walked through Bobbie and Curtis's yard and we went to Sue and Lori's yard where the tree was. Sue and Lori's house was all dark. We knocked on the door to make sure they would not be scared to hear us in their yard, but they were not home. So we talked to the kitty. "Come down, Kitty!" we said. "If you don't come down, we will be sad!" He looked at us again. He didn't say anything. You might think he would be crying after being in the tree for ten hours, but he was very silent. Silencio.

So Mommy said, "Should I go get the ladder?" and I said, "No, the ladder will scare him further up the tree!" So we just talked to him and told him how lovely his bed is, and how he probably wants to be there, and how he just has to come down the tree, and we will take him there. But he did not listen, and he just was very sad in the tree.

So Mommy got the ladder.

She brought it, and it made a lot of noise, and I was afraid we would wake someone up. We hooked it up a few steps (it was a growable ladder), and Mommy went up the ladder, and I held it very strongly so it would not fall over. And Mommy went up almost to the top of the ladder and she tried to reach the baby kitty, and she tried to talk to him, and he reached his little paw down and tried to touch her because he was so sad and lonely. So Mommy tried to tell him to come closer, but he still would not listen. So she went up one more step. And I held it even tighter. But still she could not reach him.

So she went up one more step.

And she hugged the tree very tight with one arm and tried to reach the kitty with the other arm, but he wiggled away and kicked some bark in her mouth. And he went up higher in the tree, and we were like, "No, kitty! That's what dumb kitties do!" But he did not listen to us. He's not a good listener, very much. Mommy said, "Dude, if I go back down the ladder, I'm not coming back up, so you'd better come now." And she reached up, and he reached down, and she grabbed that little guy, and she pulled him down, and she held him very tightfully. And he kicked and scratched, and tried to climb back up the tree, but she held him and she carried him back down, and I was holding the ladder very strongfully.

And she gave him to me and I hugged him, and he clawed me, and I hugged him. And I carried him back to our house. And as soon as he saw the house he was like "I want to go inside!" And he pushed up against the window, but he couldn't go through, because it is glass. So I opened the door for him and he went into the house and down to the basement to eat and go poop and all the things he couldn't do in the tree for ten hours.

Now he is walking around (because he couldn't do that in a tree either) and I am giving him hugs and kisses.

And that is what happened today.

I am soooo glad that Charlie has found someone capable of taking care of him. He will be a very accomplished cat one day thanks to you & your Mom.

i think someday when Charlie is all grown up, you will tell stories of what a troubled teen he was..and everyone will say.."Charlie?? This Charlie?? No way!"

Heart was in my mouth. I feel gladfully that you did not take a dive off that very tall ladder.

That was a very gripping tale. I'm so glad Charlie is ok, that you held the ladder strongfully and that Mommy survived bark in her mouth.

Also, I didn't mind the smooching parts of "Twilight" but the vampire head ripping is pretty icky.

This is my favorite part: "but he wiggled away and kicked some bark in her mouth." I'm at work so I should not be laughing loudfully... but I am.
