It's about a mile across.
How old is it?
It started in 3500 BC. In about 3000 BC Abraham milked his sheep on the top of the hill. Then the Hitites lived there. And the Assyrians, and then the Neo-Babylonians. And then the Persians -- that was in 540 BC. Then Alexander the great conquered it in 333 BC. He was a Greek. The Romans took it from the Greeks in 64 BC. In 395 AD the Romans in this part of the world turned into Christians. They were called the Byzantians. The Muslims conquered it in 636 AD. Then the Crusaders invaded. But they failed to take the hill at Aleppo.
When were the Crusaders there?
They were there from 1100 AD to 1250 AD. They didn't like the Muslims. Then the Mongols invaded. Twice. In 1260, and again in 1400 AD. The Mamluks had control of it by 1500 AD. They were Muslims. The Mongols became part of them. By 1900 Aleppo was part of the Ottoman Empire. Then in the 20th century it became Syria.
Wow! That's a lot of people taking over that hill! What got you interested in Aleppo?
Well, me and Dad looked up Syria and we saw Syrian forts, so we clicked on it. And it said Aleppo fort. Dad got kind of obsessed with Aleppo, so I decided to make a model of it. The bridge is one of my favorite parts.
