The Two Trees Are No More!

I guess the symbolic meaning of this depends on your original interpretation of their relationship (and whether you were the one who had to park your car under them...). I will certainly miss the two trees, but I also have to confess to feeling some measure of relief. Somehow the arboreal tension has been wearing on me, as I make the daily assessment on my way to work... Is that one leaning farther out than it was last week? Will they make it through another rainy season? Isn't there supposed to be a windstorm this weekend?

I'm all for going the extra mile to save what can be saved, but sometimes the effort of holding something up becomes too much to bear, and it's time to let go... I have so much trouble making this call in my own life, I have to admire people who can make it as decisively as these folks did.

Still, it's always sad to lose such beautiful trees -- especially when you've gone and anthropomorphized the heck out of 'em. So however you feel about the disappearance of these two trees, it seems worth offering up a little toast in their honor. Gambei!
