Alas, our pride & pleasure in this accomplishment was significantly diminished by the fact that a teacher had been stationed at the door to turn people away from it (that's her sitting on the bench). We have all been encouraged to drop our children off at the North door due to traffic concerns, but it had not occurred to us that people arriving on foot from the south would actually be refused entry at the front door and required to walk around the block to the other side of the building. Our hard-earned "Welcome to Orca K-8" sign suddenly seemed like a sick joke.
Well, we had no qualms about breaking this particular rule. In the front door we marched, and straight up the stairs to the office, where we made our opinion of this ridiculous policy known in no uncertain terms. This is the front door of our school. The construction fence in front of it is finally down, and the welcome sign is finally up. What exactly are we afraid will happen if we allow people to pass through it? We managed to use relatively polite language, but our ire was quite evident. Some foot stamping may have occurred -- we're not proud of it, but there it is. We apologized later.
It is possible that on Monday morning people may be permitted to walk through the front door of Orca K-8 unmolested as a result of our outburst. Or maybe they will have posted an armed guard with instructions to take out that crazy curly-haired mom if she makes any more trouble.
Sigh. Do we need a vacation, or what?
