Hmmm... (scratching chin)... I think that they should have given me homework. Because I don't know, that just would have been funner. Because then I could, you know, come home and do that homework. I wish it had been more different from last year. Like, more teaching us stuff, instead of explaining how things will happen. But that will change soon. And then I will be sad, and I will wish that they were still explaining how things will happen. I bet you.
Tell about the lockers.
Lockers are fun, because you can put your stuff in there. And then you don't have to be carrying it around to all your classes. Today I didn't get my locker until the end, so I had to carry all of my stuff, and it was very hurtful to my back. I brought all this stuff, because I thought I would have a locker, but I had to bring it to all my classes, because there was nowhere else to put it. Tomorrow that will be different. I think tomorrow will be very different from today.
The combination locks are very hard! Because you have to go forward five times or else it doesn't work. And if you mess up even one little tiny thing you have to go forward again to clear it. And then you have to go backwards... and forwards, and past certain numbers, and if you mess up, you die! I was almost the only one who could do it. All the other people who could do it were seventh graders, and too full of their seventh gradeness to help anyone else with their locks. And so I had to try to teach everyone. And they had to lock them up at the end of the day, and then tomorrow they will make me unlock every single lock again!
Are there any cute boys?
No. And I know you will not believe me, and you will think that I just don't want to say that there are any cute boys. But there are none! It is bothering my nerves.
Are there any nice girls?
Yes.
What do you think of the new teachers?
They are good. I like the new teachers very much. They both are called by their first names, which is good, I think. Patrick said that our mind needs to be a safe place for us to learn. And then we all thought of a bunch of things that would make your mind an unsafe place to learn, like put-downs and bullying, and things that make people sad. Then we thought of good things, like compliments and helping, and being kindful to the person. And then we decided which ones we could fix, like bullying and put-downs, because we could just not do those things, and then the person would be happy and have a safe mind to learn in.
And the other new teacher (Jeff) showed us a book that has pictures of cats and school buses and jumpropes and families, which we didn't really think had anything to do with math. And he asked us, "What do you think we will be learning from this book?" And I said that we would be graphing data about people in our family, and pets we have, and whether we ride the school bus or not, and how many times we can jump rope. Another girl in our class said we would be "making our class's personal information visual." I am not sure I want my personal information to be visual.
Did you get to go into the new science building?
Yes, I did. And there was a special little orange thing that you would spray into your eyes if you got chemicals in them. And Ms. Katherine sprayed it to show us what it did, and after she sprayed it, it didn't stop dripping for the whole class, so we had to put it in the sink. The classroom is very nice. But we are going to get new furniture because those tables are very rickety. And there was a glass door that slides up like a garage, and there was a very nice place for eating out there. And the big heater and all the pipes and stuff is all over our heads and looks like it will fall on us. The toilet is flushed by gray water.
What is gray water?
Gray water is all the water that comes off of the roof, and other places. Except there are rules, like if you take the water from your shower it has lots of skin cells in it, and soap, and if you put it on your plants it will hurt them, and they will be saddy and wilty.
And the architects came, and they told us about the building and how they designed it. And there is a giant cistern that can hold 7000 gallons of water! And there are these funny little spiral things that are attached to the faucets so you can stick little tubes on to the faucet, so you can put water into your experiment. It's very cool.
It was a good day... ish.

Yay Josie! We can't wait to have you come visit. I think we should all be more kindful to the person, so as to not bother said person's nerves.
I do know that feeling of something "bothering my nerves" and now thanks to you Josie, I can finally express it...Thank you.
